During the period under review the programme in Zambia was already well underway, with all seven Connect4Change education projects and the overarching Connect4Change economic development programme in full implementation. Local partners who work on education projects are: One World Africa, Mukuba University, Mpelembe Secondary School, CYPRO, FAWEZA, ZARD and ZACODE.
Economic development program
One overarching agricultural programme is being implemented in the economic development sector by a consortium of local NGOs (the Cotton Association of Zambia, the Zambia Honey Partnership, the Zambia Rice Federation, etc) led by IICD’s longstanding agricultural partner in this sector: the Organic Producers and Processors Association of Zambia (OPPAZ).
The main focus has been three-fold:1. Supporting project partners in the project implementation phase;
2. Developing various networking activities with the new Connect4Change partner in Zambia: One World Africa, particularly the production of a bimonthly online newsletter called “ICT4D in Zambia”;
3. Identifying funding opportunities for IICD- supported activities in Zambia.
In February, an IICD-Akvo-Edukans workshop in the Copperbelt took place, as a result of which all the Akvo project profiles were successfully placed online and are now regularly updated.
In May, two additional project proposals were submitted to the Dutch Parade Festival: the Rokana Basic School Special Needs Unit project in the Copperbelt and the Chawama Youth Video-Production project in Kitwe – both stand to receive 6000 euros in September through the Parade Festival.
